Shire of Yalgoo
Yalgoo, WA
July 2024
Spanning over 33,000 square km, the Shire of Yalgoo faced widespread flood damage across 30 roads. As the sole contractor engaged by Core Business in July 2024, MCC was responsible for full reinstatement — including reshaping drains, reconstructing pavements, replacing culverts and re-sheeting gravel. Works needed to be completed within 12 months to meet disaster recovery funding deadlines.
We sourced construction water by drilling bores and building Turkey Nest dams. Gravel pits were opened within reach of work zones. MCC established remote camps and logistics plans, implemented safety systems including Starlink and locator devices, and partnered with locals to supply plant and labour. We adjusted work programs to accommodate the wet year, and even assisted pastoralists with road and airstrip repairs.
MCC delivered the $4.7M project three months ahead of schedule. Our ability to operate safely and efficiently under extreme remote conditions demonstrated our strength in large-scale flood recovery, earning commendations and future work prospects.
